Stop seeing yourself through the lens of your situation. God doesn't look at you and address you by your sin so why do you do so to yourself and others. How can you do better if you constantly are dwelling on your shortcomings.
How can you get past them when you're holding onto them? The truth is, you can't.
God called Rahab from her pagan upbringing to be more. Who she was before accepting God's hand didn’t matter and the same goes for each of us. You are not defined by the sin in your past nor do you have to convince God you’re worthy now. God's love doesn't have to be earned. You already have been given it, whether you have realized it or not. It's not a reward; it's an available resource that you can choice to accept or not. Make up in your mind who and what you want to be and don’t let your past hold you back any longer.
